Following on from last year's introduction to the basics of 'SCRATCH', teh children develop their skills to make their own game. This involves creating characters and backgrounds who react IF something happens to them (eg touch another character or find the treasure). They learn to 'download and upload' their games and to trouble shoot glitches. By looking at games created by previous year 5s, the children can figure out how to arrange their coding blocks to make the game easier or harder.
To link with the Statistics topic in maths, Y5 learn how to make a graph using Excel. After this we continue to examine the basic skills of Excel and understand what all of the different parts are called and why a spreadsheet is so quick and versatile to deal with lots of information and calculations.
