We learn about many different topics throughout the school such as: The Romans, Egyptians, Mayans and Vikings. We study the environment and how it is important to consider ways to sustain our planet. as well as ensuring the children have a good understanding of the physical geography of our planet. To get the most out of learning about history and geography we try hard at St Mary's to teach in a cross curricular way. History and Geography is embedded into other subjects such as English, Maths, Re, and Art.
Many of our school trips are linked to history and geography. In year 5 and 6 we visit London and Birmingham and this provides the children with a wealth of both historical and geographical learning. The children in year 2 visit HMS Great Britain and Year 3 plan a trip to Bristol museum to study Ancient Egyptian artefact's. Meanwhile, our Year 4s climb up part of Offa's Dyke in Knighton and have a residential trip to Malvern Hills Outdoor Education Centre which includes a hike up to the Worcester Beacon.
If you would like to know anymore about our History and Geography curriculum please see Mrs Goddard- Year 1 teacher and coordinator of both subjects.
