The children discover and learn much from our History unit on WW1, as well as studying the story of 'Archie Dobson's War'. Through the novel Private Peaceful, we go deeper into the characters and their relationships with each other. We learn all about 'flashbacks' and the intrigue of each new chapter beginning with a flashback by Tommo - the main character. In order to write in depth and detail about the characters, we learn how to write using parenthesis. By using dashes, brackets or pairs of commas to embed a clause, the children become more confident in writing interesting and well-structured sentences.
