HISTORY - Crime and Punishment through the ages
Follow up task from yesterday

I hope you enjoyed learning about the different characters yesterday and had a chance to play Hot-Seating'. If you didn't get to use the character cards, please have a look at them now and read the criminal cards; look at the reasons they are in trouble.

Task:

Copy, trace or stick in this picture of a woman on the ducking stool in your book

She does not appear on the character cards. I would like you to create a card just for her... but first - watch this video. My jaw dropped and hit the floor as I watched this video. The quality is not great but worth sticking with it. Let's just say I'm glad I wasn't alive in Leominster in those days and my name is not Sarah... (stop video at 3.55)

Tudor Violence The Ducking Stool

stop video at 3.55

If you have the time and resources - why not have a go at making a model of the ducking stool. Maybe you could collect some sticks and twigs and make it out of that. WARNING - do not try to use it on any living creature!
p.s. - a final nugget of local historical information.
Have you heard of Tintern Abbey? This is not too far away from here. I wonder if you can look at some photos of it and discover why it looks that way now. Today's lesson will definitely help you with that question.
